Easy Berry Compote Recipe for Desserts

I always think a compote does not get enough attention, a very simple addition to add to almost any dessert.

The great thing is a compote is so easy to make and really quick

The lovely thing is you can use so many different berries together or individually to create this really tasty addition.
While I do have a preference for dropping a little onto a Ice-Cream or cream, it goes really well in place of a jam, giving a smoother less thick option over jam.
Waffles, crepes, scones, pancakes, porridge or just toast are all great with a scoop of compote .

A quick any easy recipe to make a berry compote

Fruit

300 Grams variety of berries ( Fresh or Frozen ) (Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries)
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 Tablespoons Sugar

Optional extras

1/4 TeaSpoon Ginger
1/4 TeaSpoon Cinnamon

Instructions

Cut the fruit into small pieces if needed, for example with strawberries.
- Cut the berries into small pieces if needed, for example with strawberries.
- drop the berries into a small pot over a medium heat
- add in the sugar and lemon juice and bring the berries to a simmer,
- Once the berries have started to soften, using either a wooden spoon or a silicone spatula proceed to gently mix and mash the berries.
- let the berries simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, and while it simmers occasionally stir and give the berries a mashing,
- Once the fruit has mixed in nicely take the pot off the heat and add in any of the spices as you want.
- Serve warm or leave the compote for 10 minutes to cool
- You can now serve it cooled or store it in the fridge or freezer.
- The compote can be reheated and served or served cold, depending how you prefer it.
Sugar can be left out if you prefer a less sweet option, and in fact the lemon juice, sugar and spices and all be varies in the amount depending on your taste. My ingredients are based on how I prefer it.
